Long, polished waves? Yawn. Tousled pink-streaked strands? Now that’s something to talk about. The New York Times, recently reported that older women are swapping their “Bergdorf-blond” manes for undershaves, chunky magenta highlights, and other, more interesting styles. One of the women opted for punky blue streaks to get away from a look she compared to her daughter’s “cookie-cutter” long, straight hair. This article got me thinking: Has the smooth Kate Middleton blowout become dull?
I don’t think I’ll ever abandon the notion that a beautiful blowout, full of bounce and shine, is the the real-world equivalent of Disney princess hair. But with blowdry bars around every corner, the royal look has become rather, well, common. That may have been what Miley Cyrus was thinking when she recently chopped her long mermaid locks into an action-hero crop. Although I’m not planning anything quite so dramatic, I have ditched my weekly blowout and replaced it with generous does of surf spray and letting my hair air-dry to a fuzzy mess. The best part is, I’ve been getting compliments on my less-than-perfect look. When in doubt, I guess, give them something to talk about.
Do you have perfect hair fatigue?
