It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but you wouldn’t know it by my hair. My mermaid waves courtesy of Miss Jessie’s CurlBar definitely look more at home at a July barbecue than a holiday party. I’m not alone in my cold-weather hair ode to the beach—Jessica Alba was recently spotted on the red carpet with tousled, straight-from-the-beach waves—but are our piecey strands really winter appropriate?
OK, so Alba might be in sunny California and I’m in bone-chilling New York, but I’m not retiring my favorite look just because of the weather. I understand that boho waves don’t necessarily look natural in the winter, but I like looking—and therefore feeling—like I just got back from vacation. I don’t toss my bronzer in the winter or dye my ombré hair a deeper shade, so it only makes sense to stick with my waves all year round. It works for me, but if you’re more into soft waves than full-on surfer-girl hair for your holiday parties, polish up the look by wrapping sections of your hair around a medium-barrel curling iron for more definition, and pair them with ruby red lips and liquid liner.
What about you: Would you try beachy waves in the winter?
