Brand co-founder and co-CEO Gilles Kortzagadarian on how to cover all your bases with this bespoke complexion-perfector.

Consider yourself a master mixologist with ARDENCY INN’s AMERICANA Custom Coverage Concentrate, a pure-pigment base that blends with moisturizer to create a personalized foundation, tinted moisturizer, or concealer. “The idea came by accident…we were originally working on a tinted moisturizer,” says Gilles Kortzagadarian, co-founder and co-CEO (with Stephane Siboni). “As we were creating the shades, the magic question was raised: ‘What if you could mix pigments with your moisturizer to create your own custom-tinted moisturizer?’ We all got really excited by this idea and decided to push the concept all the way to customizable foundation and even concealer.” Here, he fills us in on the unique base that’s perfect for your best and worst skin days—plus, everything in between. “The formula was developed using a new technology called Chronosphere Opticals, a color-correcting microlens that contains a cosmetic shade adjuster to neutralize skin imperfections,” says Kortzagadarian. “Another unique ingredient is a special emulsifier that allows the Concentrate to blend perfectly with both silicone-based and water-based formulas.”

Liquid Foundation: “Using the back of your hand as a mixing palette, add a tiny drop of Concentrate to your daily moisturizer. Use slightly more than usually needed for a full face. Mix until the tone is uniform and apply with your fingers, a sponge, or a foundation brush. Then, add another drop of Concentrate to your leftover mixture. Blend again until the color is uniform and use only where extra coverage is needed.”
Tinted Moisturizer: “We recommend a 1-to-5 Concentrate-to-moisturizer ratio to create a tinted moisturizer.”
Concealer: “A 1-to-1 blend will conceal dark circles and blemishes. Used alone, the Concentrate will camouflage scars, burns, and tattoos.”

“The idea is to start sheer, with one part Concentrate to four parts moisturizer, and intensify the coverage—between one and three for medium, and between one and two for full coverage—only where extra help is needed.”

“We choose plastic over glass for practical reasons: the bottle is light, easy to carry around, and will never break. Plus, the airless pump prevents outside elements from compromising the formula.”

“Makeup artists have already adopted the Concentrate. We’ve seen them getting really creative with their mixtures on photo shoots and also backstage during fashion week. Feel free to experiment and create the mix that’s right for you! All you need to know: the more Concentrate, the higher the coverage!”

“The unnatural mask-like effect typically happens when the same level of coverage is applied to the entire face. Adjusting the coverage to different parts of the face is the key to achieving a natural skin-like finish. The Concentrate enables you to do just that.”
