Moms: They’re full of great advice that we just roll our eyes at. But maybe it’s time we start listening. Here, we round up the best routines and lifestyle tips from Hollywood’s hottest moms. (Cover image illustrated by Angela Coppola exclusively for MYSA).
Even the supermodel-slash-mother-of-two known for her envy-inducing hair, killer curves, and sexy-as-hell mole needs a little help starting her day. “I always say I can get up at whatever time you want, but my face, I’m not sure what time it’s going to wake up,” the model mother says referencing a 6 a.m. commercial shoot. “I find when I use the [FOREO Luna Mini] and I put on my cleanser, before I even take a shower, it just brings the blood supply to my skin, and you know if you have pillow marks or whatever, it just helps everything settle faster in the morning.” Whatever beauty tips Crawford gives, we shall follow.
We know having a workout buddy boosts your motivation to hit the gym—and, apparently, so does celebrity mom Kate Hudson. “I love exercising with my kids! I’ll walk around for a couple of hours with Bing on my back—that’s a workout,” the actor says referring to her two sons, Ryder and Bingham. “I’ve been kickboxing with Ryder. I can do squats with him on my back,” Hudson says. “I’ve also bench-pressed Bing before now. The kids love it—and after about five lifts, you’re exhausted.” While it’s a great in a pinch, it’s creepy if you don’t have kids. We’ll stick with dumbbells for strength training for now.
Former Spice Girl, current fashion designer, and…part-time tutor? Even Victoria Beckham isn’t free from helping with homework. The celeb mum says her breakfast of peppermint tea and fruit is ambushed by her four children’s math and English assignments. “We have times tables on Post-its all over the fridge,” she says. “We’re quizzing each other in the morning, and we make it into a little bit of a game.” We bet you didn’t know multitasking over tea was a definitive sign of girl power.
Say what you will about the Donald, but his daughter, businesswoman Ivanka puts on a (much less controversial) show in her own right. After the mogul-model-mom wakes up, gets ready, meditates, and works out (we’re tired just thinking about this overachieving morning routine), she stars in her very own puppet show with her son, Joseph. “I hide behind [my daughter Arabella’s crib], and she first sees me in the form of a puppet show with her stuffed animals,” Trump says. “Joseph is always the last puppet. Every morning she wants the puppet show before she gets out of bed.”
The Brazilian beauty relies on a healthy diet to nourish the body that rules the runways. And true to her all-natural, earth mother self, Bündchen and her son Benjamin make his dried fruit school snack together. “You can use any fruit, but I always use banana as the base because it has great texture and sweetness,” she says. “My son is so proud; he goes to school and tells all his friends he made his own snack.” If we were him, we’d probably be bragging that we inherited Gisele and Tom Brady’s gorgeous (not to mention athletic) genes instead.
Even though the superstar sings, dances, acts, and more, Jennifer Lopez still succumbs to the mommy morning rush. To fit it all in, she relies on the tried-and-true technique of busy women everywhere: she applies her makeup in the car. “I’m usually running off to a meeting of some sort,” the celebrity mom says. “I wind up doing my makeup in the car to save a lot of time.” From our experience, we recommend leaving the liquid eyeliner at home.
This Academy Award winner and mother of two’s Dorian Gray-esque agelessness could be accredited to her seriousness about skipping sugar. “[It’s] poison for both your system and your skin. I’m diabetic so I avoid sugar and that helps with anti-aging.” She says: “I use Xylitol as a sugar substitute and give it to my daughter. I strongly believe in talking about nutrition at an early age and setting a good example.” With that diet, we anticipate her kids will look toddler-esque forever.
The Queen of Pop admits she’s the “bad cop” when it comes to parenting. “My kids don’t watch TV,” she says. “We have televisions but they’re not hooked up to anything but movies. TV is trash. I was raised without it, I didn’t miss anything. TV is poison.” Ouch, Madge. We always figured moms that steal a kiss from Britney Spears would be less rigid.
The platinum blonde Grammy Award winner is no doubt a superstar when it comes to sun safety. The singer stays out of the sun, shielding her fair skin from harsh rays with an umbrella or hat—a great example for her three kids—and virtually everyone. Consider this a friendly reminder from Ms. Stefani to slather on the sunscreen all year round.
