Blue Jean Baby

April 8, 2010

The fashion and beauty industry is obsessed with youth, why else would there be so many anti-aging eye potions and doll-faced 13-year-old’s strutting their stuff down the catwalks of Milan? Another staple for the youth of America are jeans. From those OshKosh B’gosh overalls we wore as toddlers scampering around the teeter-todder, to the Britney hiphuggers in 9th grade, and now our dark denim hipster skinny jeans.

We all wear them–except for Lady Gaga, I suppose.

Denim was all over the Spring 2010 runways. It was most notably featured in the Louis Vuitton collection, in a button-down shirt, pleated shorts, skirts, and a bohemian halter dresses. Stella McCartney showed a provincial button-down skirts and overall-esque pocket dress. Hervé Léger showed shredded, cut-out denim dresses and patchwork shrunken jackets.

This Fashionista is adding some of this Spring 2010 trend to her wardrobe in the form of a faded, button-down denim vest over a semi-sheer longsleeve white shirt, and high-waisted, black skinny jeans.

Life In Technicolor

Fuchsia:

Looking to update your classic cherry red lips? A bold fuchsia mouth is a modern alternative. The hue adds a distinct youthfulness to your look. To recreate this look seen in at Spring 2010 Marc by Marc Jacobs (pictured,) try Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Fuchsia, $8.99. For less of a matte look, top with NARS Lip Gloss in Easy Lover, $24, or wear the gloss alone for a sheer hot pink.

Also offer yourself a quick fuchsia flash, just swipe Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip & Cheek Tint, $7, in I Pink I Can over the apples of your cheeks for an instant beauty refresher. I like to use this cheek tint as a pick-me-up whenever my skin looks a bit paler than usual, it always brings a healthy glow to my face.

Orange Crush:

This sunny shade lit up at Prada‘s (pictured) and Giambattisa Valli‘s Spring 2010 runways. This divinely summer shade was painted on the pouts in both shows, and you too can simply slick on the orange-y goodness of Tarte Natural Lip Stain, $24,  in Joy. This lip pencil may look like those chubby crayons you drew stick figures with in grade school, but Crayola has nothing on these fool-proof pencils. The lip pencil is super easy to use and leaves a lasting apricot hue on your lips. Also check out Benefit Georgia Blush, $28, for a soft, feminine peaches and cream glow.

Unexpected Pearls

March 15, 2010

Although classic pearls are one of the few items in a Fashionista’s closet that will never get old, us Fashionistas like to mix things up. This Fashionista is rocking knit leggings detailed with faux black pearls with patent gray lace-up booties. This look is perfect for spring!

Get your own version of the classic cool pearls:

Hint: Use these Bronzing Pearls for a springy, sun-kissed glow.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

November 2, 2009

This autumn, bring the wild things to your wardrobe! Your standard dark color palette can easily be spiced up with a few animal-inspired accents. This Fashionista is splashing up the fall staples of black skinny jeans and a leather bomber jacket with an edgy leopard print scarf. Wild accessories add a just enough extra edge to any outfit without making you look like Pebbles Flintstone.

If you’re truly daring, check out this zebra print skirt from Nasty Gal. For those of us who are a bit tamer, these DKNYC leopard print ballet flats are chic enough to wear everyday as we strut to class. Also don’t be afraid to incorporate color with these accessories! Marc Jacobs has a fabulous red faux croc-inspired pouch, but my personal favorite is this statement cocktail ring by None the Richer that allows you to really unleash your inner she wolf.
